Erdogan expresses regret over failure to reopen Strait of Hormuz

BAKU. Azerbaijan. October 9. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed regret that months of efforts to end the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz have failed to achieve their objective.

Speaking at the International Justice Summit in Istanbul, Erdogan also criticised what he described as the declining effectiveness of international agreements and the failure to enforce rulings issued by international courts.

“International agreements have lost their effectiveness. Likewise, decisions issued by international courts are no longer being enforced,” he said.

Erdogan further criticised the existing international system, arguing that the United Nations system could not be considered “legitimate and equitable” if it failed to reflect the will of the international community.

His remarks highlighted concerns over the effectiveness of international institutions and the challenges facing diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes and restore stability around the Strait of Hormuz.
