BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani has conducted a field tour of Latakia International Airport as Damascus follows up on the implementation of a memorandum of understanding with Russia.
Al-Shaibani was accompanied by Chief of the General Staff Maj. Gen. Ali al-Naasan, Air Force Commander Brig. Gen. Assem Hawari, Naval Forces Commander Brig. Gen. Mohammad al-Saud and Military Intelligence Chief Brig. Gen. Hamza al-Humaidi.
During the visit, the Syrian foreign minister also met with a number of Russian officials to discuss the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides.
The meeting focused on progress in carrying out the steps agreed upon by Syria and Russia under the memorandum.
The visit comes as Damascus and Moscow continue discussions over arrangements concerning Russia’s presence on Syria’s Mediterranean coast.
Al-Shaibani previously toured Latakia International Airport and Tartous Port on August 9 following an agreement between Syria and Russia aimed at reorganizing Moscow’s presence along the Syrian coast.
The latest inspection indicates that Syrian officials are continuing to monitor the implementation of the agreed measures at strategically important sites in Latakia and the wider coastal region.
