BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 14. US Vice President JD Vance has said that Washington has engaged in direct conversations with the Houthis amid growing concerns over developments in the Red Sea region.
Speaking to reporters ahead of an election rally in Kansas City, Vance said he was particularly concerned about the Houthi takeover of Mayyun Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Vance also said the United States has remained in constant contact with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and other countries affected by the developments in the region.
The comments come amid heightened tensions around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a strategically important maritime route linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
