BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has said Tehran will not allow what he described as US “economic terrorism” to undermine the country’s economic stability or the livelihoods of its people.
In a statement posted on X, Aref strongly criticised Washington’s economic pressure on Iran and argued that such measures would not force the country to change its policies.
“The experience of the Islamic Revolution has shown that economic pressure is incapable of altering the will of the Iranian nation and instead yields the opposite result,” Aref said.
The first vice president presented resistance to US economic measures as part of Iran’s broader effort to protect domestic economic stability and living conditions.
His remarks come amid renewed US threats of tougher economic measures against Tehran and heightened tensions between the two countries.
Iranian officials have repeatedly rejected Washington’s sanctions policy, arguing that economic pressure has failed to achieve its political objectives.
Aref’s statement signals that Tehran intends to maintain its current position despite the prospect of additional US economic restrictions.
