BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 19. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has praised what he described as Iran’s “supportive stance” towards Iraq, highlighting Tehran’s assistance during the country’s fight against ISIL (ISIS) around a decade ago, according to Iran’s state-run news agency.
Al-Zaidi made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who began an official three-day visit to Iraq on Wednesday.
During their talks, the two officials discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation and joint action, as well as ways to strengthen relations between Iraq and Iran across various sectors.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation and identifying opportunities to further develop ties between the neighbouring countries.
Ghalibaf, for his part, praised the Iraqi government’s efforts to advance bilateral relations and broaden cooperation. He said stronger ties could help serve the shared interests of the Iraqi and Iranian peoples.
