BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 26. The administration of US President Donald Trump has asked the US Supreme Court to allow immigration authorities to detain migrants arrested during immigration enforcement operations without giving them the opportunity to seek release through bond hearings.
TurkicWorld reports that according to court documents made public on Friday, the administration requested that the Supreme Court overturn a ruling issued by a federal appeals court in May.
The appeals court rejected the administration's reinterpretation of a decades-old immigration law, which serves as the legal foundation for the administration's large-scale migrant detention policy.
The Trump administration argues that its interpretation is consistent with federal immigration law and that the policy is necessary to enforce immigration regulations. However, the federal appeals court concluded that the administration's legal interpretation was not supported by the existing statute.
