BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25. The United Nations has called on Venezuelan authorities to urgently remove restrictions on media and information access following the recent earthquakes, warning that communication access could soon become “a matter of life and death.”
TurkicWorld reports that in a statement, the UN fact-finding mission on Venezuela stressed that human rights must guide both national and international responses to the disaster, particularly in ensuring access to reliable information.
The mission urged Venezuela’s telecommunications regulator CONATEL to immediately restore full access to social media platforms and other media outlets to allow accurate reporting and coordination of emergency response efforts.
It warned that in the coming hours and days, the ability to receive information will be critical for survival and disaster management, emphasizing that there is “no excuse” for continued restrictions.
The appeal comes as communication disruptions and infrastructure damage continue to complicate rescue and relief operations across affected regions.
