BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 25. Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Kanybek Dosmambetov met with US Ambassador Leslie Viguerie in Bishkek, TurkicWorld reports via Arab News.
According to the Ministry of Health, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation in healthcare, including the exchange of experience in public health, disease prevention, personnel training, and the use of modern medical technologies.
The minister noted the potential for further development of cooperation between the United States and the Kyrgyz Republic, taking into account mutual interests and the need to strengthen the healthcare system. During the meeting, it was announced that, in order to develop healthcare infrastructure, a plan is currently being developed to build a medical campus in Bishkek with the possibility of purchasing modern medical and laboratory equipment, including products from leading American manufacturers. Interest in internships and advanced training for Kyrgyz specialists in the United States was also noted.
The American side noted that cooperation in healthcare has been ongoing since the mid-1990s and includes programs on HIV, tuberculosis, and sanitary and epidemiological safety. In this regard, the United States proposed formalizing further cooperation in the form of a memorandum outlining priorities for the coming years.
Under the proposed memorandum, the United States plans to focus on three areas: access to services and medications for people living with HIV; support for the national tuberculosis program; and strengthening sanitary and epidemiological preparedness. Dosmambetov reported that the draft memorandum is currently undergoing the established interagency approval process, including an analysis of financial, budgetary, legal, tax, customs, and institutional aspects. Following this review, consolidated comments will be sent to the American side through official channels.
The parties confirmed their mutual interest in continuing work on healthcare, epidemiological security, infrastructure modernization, commercial cooperation, and medical personnel training.
