BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 13. The top US general overseeing American forces in the Middle East, Admiral Brad Cooper, met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at his presidential palace in Damascus on Friday, US Central Command said in a statement, Reuters reported.
The two men were joined in their meeting by US envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack, the statement said, TurkicWorld reports citing AsharqAL-Awsat.
The men discussed efforts to counter Islamic State militants in Syria.
Cooper and Barrack also praised Syria for helping in the recovery of US citizens inside the country, the statement added.
