Britain and Germany aim to sign defence deal by end of year - Starmer

BAKU. Azerbaijan. August 28. Britain and Germany plan to complete talks on an agreement to expand defence cooperation this autumn, TurkicWorld reports.

This was stated in a statement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his visit to Berlin.

"The new agreement between the UK and Germany will be a key element in a wider restructuring of Britain's relationship with Europe, and the defence deal currently being negotiated between the two countries will be finalised in the autumn," the Prime Minister said.

It should be noted that on July 24, the Ministers of Defense of Great Britain and Germany, John Healey and Boris Pistorius, signed a declaration on military cooperation between London and Berlin. The declaration expresses the parties’ intention to strengthen cooperation in the development, production and supply of weapons. The Times later reported that the British government was discussing with Berlin the possibility of jointly developing missiles with a range of 3,200 km.

The British government department added that a wider agreement covering technology, energy, economic and environmental cooperation between the two countries could be concluded in the first half of 2025.
