BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. With the support of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the assistance of TIKA, a “Special Panel on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage in the Turkic World” was held.
The panel took place within the framework of the 24th International Kemer Underwater Days and the CMAS Seminar on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage, held from May 14 to 23, 2025, in the Kemer district of Antalya. The events were organized by Akdeniz University, the Underwater Archaeology Research and Application Center, and the Kemer Promotion Foundation.
Specialists and scholars from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, Hungary and Uzbekistan participated in the session, where activities carried out in the field of underwater cultural heritage and underwater archaeology in the Turkic world were presented, and future perspectives were evaluated.
Following the special panel, a roundtable discussion was held with the aim of enhancing cooperation and strengthening efforts to protect underwater cultural heritage across the Turkic world. Bringing together scientists and official representatives from various countries, the meeting served as a significant platform for both academic exchange and international collaboration.
Seminars and training sessions, where Türkiye’s extensive experience and expert knowledge in this field were shared with participants in a practical format, will conclude on May 23, 2025.
