BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Conflicts and their devastating impact of consequences on infrastructure, soil degradation, and biodiversity will exacerbate the climate crisis and create a poor period, which undermines peace, stability, and development, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at a High-level Panel on Climate and Peace: Enabling joint action to leave no one behind," TurkicWorld reports.
According to him, climate change accelerates food insecurity and water scarcity and causes soil degradation as well as displacement of people.
The minister noted that these developments often catalyze conflicts that lead to deepening instability.
"The Baku Climate and Peace Action Center embodies our commitment to turn these pledges into concrete actions to encourage the mobilization of financial and technical resources to support climate change adaptation and resilience in vulnerable regions, especially in small island developing states.
Nothing except our unwavering solidarity and urgent action can resolve the intertwined crisis of climate change and conflicting demands," he added.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on November 11. COP29, which is being held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, will continue until November 22. It is the largest event organized by Azerbaijan to date, and the first time in the region that it is being held in Azerbaijan.
A key expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.
A total of 14 initiatives have been put forward by the COP29 Chairmanship.
