BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. The opening of transport communications between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not a new topic, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told reporters, TurkicWorld reports.
He reminded that the trilateral statement [signed between Azerbaijani, Armenian and Russian leaders following the Second Karabakh War] contains a provision regarding this issue.
"There are commitments that Armenia has undertaken. This topic has been discussed for a long time. After three and a half years of discussions, we believe that the phrase 'agreement has been reached' is overdue. This agreement should have been reached a long time ago.
If there is still no official document on this matter, and the other side has not started any work, this means that there are still open issues. The Azerbaijani side is carrying out operational work to establish transport and communication infrastructure on its territory, which will soon be extended to the border with Armenia," he added.
To note, according to the trilateral statement signed on November 10, 2020, by agreement of the parties (Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia), the construction of new transport communications connecting the western regions of Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic should be ensured.
