BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Tanzania Tulia Ackson arrived in Azerbaijan on November 15 to attend the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), TurkicWorld reports.

To note, a parliamentary meeting jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Azerbaijani Parliament will be held in Baku on November 16-17 within the framework of COP29. The event is expected to be attended by 92 delegations from 66 countries and international organizations - about 330 representatives in total. Among the participants are 167 members of parliament, including 12 speakers and vice-speakers.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) kicked off in Baku on November 11.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) means "Conference of Parties" and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties decide otherwise, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is based in Bonn.
