Azerbaijan pursues independent policy for benefit of its people - Russian MP

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. Azerbaijan pursues an independent policy for the benefit of its people, Russian MP Alexander Terentyev said during a media briefing, TurkicWorld reports.

"In the modern world, countries are undergoing certain trials, and, against this background, it's noteworthy that Azerbaijan is pursuing an independent policy for the interests of its people," he explained.

The snap parliamentary election was held in Azerbaijan on September 1.

According to preliminary data, the voter turnout in the election reached 37.27 percent.

A total of 2,196,771 voters had cast their ballots in the election, and 5,895 polling stations submitted their protocols to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan.

A total of 112,749 local observers have been registered, including over 65,000 representatives of political parties. There were 598 international observers from 51 organizations and 69 countries.

Among the 990 registered candidates, 305 represent 25 political parties, while 371 are party members but were not nominated by their parties. In total, 676 candidates are affiliated with political parties.
