BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi reaffirmed Cairo’s support for Iraq’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity during talks with Iraqi National Wisdom Movement leader Ammar Al-Hakim on Thursday.
According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining communication with Iraqi state institutions and political and national forces, highlighting the historical ties between the two countries and their peoples.
The Egyptian president expressed support for measures taken by the Iraqi government to protect national sovereignty, combat corruption and ensure that weapons remain under state control.
El-Sisi also praised Iraq’s efforts in fighting terrorism and extremist ideology, including initiatives aimed at addressing the causes behind such threats. He highlighted Al-Hakim’s role in supporting stability, reducing political divisions and prioritizing Iraq’s national interests.
For his part, Ammar Al-Hakim thanked El-Sisi for the meeting and praised Egypt’s role in supporting regional security and stability. He said discussions focused on current geopolitical tensions and ways to reduce their impact on Iraq and other countries in the region.
The talks also covered developments across the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue. El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s preference for peaceful solutions and its efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation.
Regarding Gaza, the Egyptian president highlighted Cairo’s humanitarian efforts and its work to implement the second phase of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement and the US peace plan. He reiterated Egypt’s position that establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international resolutions, represents the solution to the Palestinian issue.
Egypt and Iraq have continued coordination on regional issues, including efforts to reduce tensions and strengthen collective Arab security cooperation.
