BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 14. Egypt is stepping up efforts to attract investment in artificial intelligence, data centres and digital infrastructure as it seeks to strengthen its position as a regional technology hub.
The eighth FDC Summit, running from September 22 to 24, brings together government officials, technology executives and industry experts to examine how emerging technologies can generate investment and economic opportunities for Egypt.
The three-day event will focus on artificial intelligence, data centres, next-generation telecommunications networks, cloud computing and cybersecurity.
Organised under the auspices of Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Industry and the Information and Decision Support Center at the Cabinet, the summit aims to strengthen cooperation between government institutions, international technology companies and Egyptian businesses.
FDC Summit organising committee chairman Tarek Shabaka said the focus was no longer simply on adopting new technologies but on turning technological transformation into economic opportunities.
Data centres will be one of the main areas of discussion, with participants examining how Egypt can use its geographical position, telecommunications infrastructure, skilled workforce and access to Arab and African markets to attract investment in data hosting and digital services.
Artificial intelligence will also feature prominently, with discussions covering its applications in healthcare, banking and financial services, industry, energy and government services, as well as its impact on productivity and business models.
Cybersecurity will form another major pillar of the summit, with discussions focusing on protecting critical infrastructure and data, managing cyber risks, ensuring business continuity and strengthening institutional preparedness.
The event will also feature initiatives focused on technology entrepreneurship, women’s participation in the digital economy, research and development, skills development and closer links between academia and industry.
Major international technology companies, including Google, Thales, Palo Alto Networks, Kaspersky, Orange and HPE Juniper, are expected to participate alongside Egyptian technology companies.
