BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 8. The United Kingdom has reaffirmed that there is “no doubt” over its sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, following renewed claims by Argentine President Javier Milei over the disputed South Atlantic territory.
Foreign Office Minister Kirsty McNeill told lawmakers that Britain remained firmly committed to the Falkland Islanders, their democratic rights and the UK’s sovereignty over the islands.
Milei last week announced plans to sanction oil companies involved in drilling operations around the Falkland Islands, intensifying Buenos Aires’ campaign to assert its claim over the territory.
The latest dispute also comes after US President Donald Trump said Washington was reviewing its traditionally neutral position on the Falkland Islands. McNeill said Britain had made its position clear to the United States, adding that Washington was also fully aware of London’s unwavering support for the islanders.
