BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 7. Qatar has outlined its plans to develop a smart, integrated and sustainable transport system, with a focus on electric mobility, intelligent infrastructure and autonomous transport technologies at the second Autonomous e-Mobility Forum 2026.
The forum was inaugurated on September 7 at the Qatar National Convention Centre by Ministry of Transport Undersecretary Mohammed Abdullah Al Maadeed. The event will run until September 9, with the Ministry of Transport serving as host and strategic partner.
Al Maadeed said the transport sector is undergoing a major transformation and has evolved from a supporting service into a strategic driver of economic development, competitiveness and quality of life.
He highlighted the transition to electric mobility and autonomous driving as key elements of the sector’s future, while noting challenges related to energy demand, digital infrastructure, safety, regulation and the development of national technological capabilities.
According to Al Maadeed, addressing these challenges requires coordinated cooperation between governments, the private sector and research institutions.
He said Qatar has invested heavily in modern transport infrastructure, including road networks, the metro system, public transport fleets, ports, airports and logistics zones.
In line with Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy, the focus is now shifting from simply building infrastructure toward maximizing the use of existing systems. Priorities include expanding electric mobility, developing digital infrastructure, introducing intelligent transport systems and preparing for autonomous vehicles.
The forum’s first day featured several panel discussions, including a session led by the Ministry of Transport on integration, planning and sustainability. Discussions focused on building a smart and sustainable transport ecosystem that integrates different modes of transportation.
More than 40 international and regional speakers are participating in the forum, representing government, industry, academia, technology and research.
The professional programme includes more than 50 keynote speeches and panel discussions across 10 mobility and industry tracks. More than 20 exhibition spaces are also showcasing autonomous vehicles, electric mobility solutions, smart infrastructure and emerging technologies.
