For years, Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak has been at the forefront of the struggle to champion Turkic and Muslim causes on the global stage, earning high praise for its unabashed advocacy of the oppressed in countries such as Syria, Palestine, Libya and Azerbaijan, and providing a platform for voices that would have otherwise been overlooked in the West.
Boasting a large readership and online following in Turkey and abroad, Yeni Şafak utilized sophisticated social media tools to keep Turkic and Muslim issues front and center, with its videos racking up millions of views on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Whether be it reporting the plight of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar or exposing Islamophobic rhetoric and racist attacks in the West, Yeni Şafak never shied away from tackling subjects that other publications have turned their backs on.
Since the onset of the Arab Spring, the Turkish daily backed protesters across the region who rose up to demand their rights, receiving ample coverage from the publication when others tried to muffle their calls for freedom.
During the Second Karabakh War, Yeni Şafak reached wider audiences abroad through its English- and Arabic-language services, sparing no effort to report on Azerbaijan’s struggle to liberate its lands, through articles, columns and video content that conveyed the history of the struggle and countered pro-Armenian propaganda.
Since its founding in the mid-nineties, Yeni Şafak has made it its mission to champion causes of importance to the Turkic world, calling for greater unity and cooperation between member states.
