BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 11. At least 46,000 people have been displaced by renewed fighting in Yemen since last week, with the number continuing to rise, the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) said.
IOM Director General Amy Pope warned that many families are being forced to flee for a second or third time during the conflict, often with very few possessions left.
She said the spread of fighting is making it increasingly difficult for humanitarian organisations to reach people who urgently need assistance.
The IOM called for safe and unhindered humanitarian access to affected communities so that lifesaving assistance can be delivered.
Pope also urged all parties to protect civilians and humanitarian workers and to safeguard humanitarian supplies, vehicles and facilities.
The latest displacement underscores the growing humanitarian impact of renewed violence in Yemen, where repeated waves of conflict have forced many communities from their homes.
