BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 10. AI chip startup Positron AI has raised $875 million in its latest funding round, more than quadrupling its valuation in seven months to $5 billion.
The company, which develops specialised processors for running trained artificial intelligence models, said the new financing follows a $230 million funding round in February that valued Positron at $1.06 billion, according to PitchBook.
The latest financing was divided into two tranches: a $375 million Series C round at a $3.5 billion pre-money valuation and a Series C-1 round of up to $500 million. The financing was led by NEA, Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, Andra Capital, SemiAnalysis Capital and Jim Clark.
The funds will be used to complete the final design stage of Asimov, Positron’s next-generation AI chip. The company is targeting production in the second half of 2027.
Positron said its Titan AI inference system will combine four to eight Asimov chips, enabling it to run models exceeding 16 trillion parameters and context windows of more than 10 million tokens within a single node.
The rapidly expanding AI inference market has become a major area of competition as companies develop specialised processors designed to challenge Nvidia’s dominance in AI computing.
The latest funding round also attracted investments from the Qatar Investment Authority, Cisco Investments and Naver Ventures.
Positron said it is additionally deploying more than 50 racks of Atlas, its first-generation inference system, at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
As part of the financing, Forest Baskett of NEA, Gavin Baker of Atreides Management, Dylan Patel of SemiAnalysis and Thomas Jermoluk from Jim Clark Office will join Positron’s board.
