BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23. Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with Google Cloud and through Qatar Digital Academy, has launched a national upskilling initiative aimed at strengthening digital capabilities across the country.
The initiative will provide more than 50,000 training seats by 2030 and is designed to develop skills in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and advanced digital technologies. The program also seeks to improve workforce readiness for the adoption of emerging technologies in line with Qatar’s digital transformation and digital economy objectives.
The initiative forms part of MCIT’s broader efforts to develop human capital and create a large pool of digital talent capable of keeping pace with rapid technological developments. Its training pathway will range from foundational digital skills to specialized programs for executives, technical professionals and developers.
Reem Mohammed Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at MCIT, said building digital capabilities is a key priority in Qatar’s digital transformation journey. She noted that the initiative would provide specialized training pathways tailored to the needs of the workforce, executive leaders and technical specialists.
According to Al Mansoori, the program also supports the goals of Qatar’s Digital Agenda 2030, which include creating approximately 26,000 jobs in the information and communications technology sector by 2030 and increasing the capabilities of ICT professionals by 10 percent through advanced skills development.
The initiative builds on previous cooperation between MCIT and Google Cloud, which has resulted in the training of more than 12,000 people across Qatar over the past five years.
Ghassan Kosta, Regional General Manager at Google Cloud, said the expanded collaboration would scale these efforts to more than 50,000 learning opportunities by 2030. Specialized frameworks and curricula, including the Advanced Solutions Lab, Gemini Enterprise and Google Looker, will be used to develop technical expertise in enterprise-scale cloud and AI solutions.
The program is being implemented under a five-year framework agreement between MCIT and Google Cloud. It was announced during Google Cloud Summit Doha 2026 at the Qatar National Convention Centre, coinciding with the third anniversary of the launch of the Google Cloud region in Doha.
