Russia offers to mediate in Middle East crisis

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 8. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has told his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, that Moscow is ready to help resolve the escalating situation in the Middle East.

During talks in Moscow, Lavrov said Russia was prepared to contribute to efforts aimed at easing tensions and finding a diplomatic solution to the widening regional crisis.

Prince Faisal, meanwhile, said Saudi Arabia was keen to deepen cooperation with Russia, including through the OPEC+ alliance.

The talks come amid intensified Houthi attacks targeting Saudi-linked shipping in the Red Sea. The escalation has added further pressure to global energy markets as Iran continues to target commercial shipping in the strategically important region.
