BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. The US Justice Department said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency that authorities allege was intended as donations to Hamas.
According to the department, US authorities also took control of several web domains and communication platforms allegedly used by Hamas for fundraising and recruitment activities.
The Justice Department said investigators obtained information concerning thousands of individuals who had contacted Hamas with the intention of providing financial support to the group.
The action represents part of broader US efforts to disrupt alleged financing and recruitment networks connected to Hamas. Authorities said the seizures and control of the online platforms were aimed at preventing the movement of funds and limiting the group's ability to use digital channels for fundraising and outreach.
