BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. Iraq will send a high-level security delegation to Saudi Arabia on Thursday to discuss security issues and areas of mutual concern, according to Iraq’s state news agency.
The delegation will include senior officials, including the director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the head of the Intelligence Service, the commander of the Air Defence Command and the head of the Counter-Terrorism Service.
The talks are expected to focus on recent attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, as well as strengthening security cooperation between Baghdad and Riyadh.
The visit comes days after Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi met Saudi intelligence chief Khalid al-Humaidan to discuss regional security developments. Al-Zaidi said Iraq would not allow its territory to be used for launching attacks against other countries.
Last month, Saudi Arabia accused Iran-aligned groups of carrying out an attack on its energy infrastructure from Iraqi territory. The United States and Saudi Arabia later conducted joint strikes against targets in Iraq.
