US says new round of Israel-Lebanon talks to be held in Rome in September

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 11. The United States will sponsor a new round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in Rome in early September, a US State Department official said, according to AFP.

The official said the political track of the talks would resume in the Italian capital, while discussions would continue in Beirut, Jerusalem and Washington in the meantime.

“We feel good about the trajectory,” the US official said.

The announcement follows the seventh round of US-mediated talks between Israel and Lebanon held in Rome last week. The discussions focused on implementing a framework agreement, including the establishment of new “pilot zones” in southern Lebanon where Israeli forces would begin withdrawing and the Lebanese army would assume control.

The negotiations are part of broader efforts to reduce tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border and establish long-term security arrangements.
