BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 4. The U.S. State Department says the latest round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, which began in Rome, will continue through August 6.
In a post on X, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the talks bring together technical teams from both countries to advance the full implementation of the June 26 framework agreement.
According to Pigott, the agenda includes discussions on the verified disarmament of Hezbollah, the implementation of a pilot zone process that would enable the Lebanese Armed Forces to assume control over certain Israeli-occupied areas, and the redeployment of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon.
"The United States remains fully committed to supporting both governments as they carry this process forward in a manner that delivers lasting security for both countries, eliminates security threats to Israel, and restores Lebanese state authority throughout the south," Pigott said.
Neither the Israeli nor the Lebanese government has publicly commented on the latest phase of the negotiations.
