BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 29. Italy and the United States are set to sign a cooperation agreement on the Pax Silica initiative on Friday, strengthening collaboration on artificial intelligence supply chains, Italy's Foreign Ministry announced.
The agreement will be signed in the southern Italian city of Brindisi by Italy's Ambassador Armando Varricchio and US Ambassador to Italy Tilman Fertitta.
Pax Silica is a US State Department initiative that brings together allied countries to strengthen AI-related supply chains. The partnership covers strategic sectors including semiconductors, critical minerals, advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence models.
Italy had originally been expected to join the initiative during a meeting in Miami in June. However, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani canceled the trip after political tensions emerged between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and US President Donald Trump, with Washington accusing Rome of providing insufficient support during the conflict involving Iran.
According to the Italian Foreign Ministry, the agreement aims to promote an ecosystem that supports the growth of key technology sectors while reducing dependence on exporting countries for critical AI-related resources and components.
The signing is expected to mark a new phase of technological cooperation between Rome and Washington despite recent diplomatic disagreements.
