Israeli army says Hamas commander killed in Gaza airstrike

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 3. The Israeli military said it has killed Muhammad Naim Jandiya, whom it identified as a Hamas commander, during an airstrike in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement published on Telegram, the Israeli army said Jandiya served as the head of military security for Hamas's Shujayea Battalion. The military alleged that he was involved in holding three Israeli captives in an underground tunnel after they were abducted during the October 7, 2023 attack.

According to the Israeli military, Jandiya was killed on Wednesday during an operation in Gaza.

The three Israeli captives whom the military said had previously been held by Jandiya were later mistakenly shot and killed by Israeli forces during military operations in Gaza after being misidentified as Palestinians.

Hamas has not issued any official statement regarding the Israeli military's claim or the reported death of Muhammad Naim Jandiya.
