Israel European Union Kaja Kallas Diplomacy Gideon Saar Apartheid

Israel cuts off contact with EU foreign policy chief over ‘apartheid’ remark

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 18. Israel has said it is cutting off official contact with European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas following controversial remarks attributed to her comparing Israel to apartheid-era South Africa.

TurkicWorld reports that Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said he was ending all communication with Kallas, accusing her of showing “blatant unfairness” and an obsessive stance against Israel.

In a post, Saar condemned the reported comments, describing them as equivalent to “blood libel,” and said they left Israel with “no choice” but to sever diplomatic contact.

According to the statement, Kallas has not publicly denied or clarified the remarks, which further escalated tensions between Israel and the EU’s foreign policy leadership.

The development highlights growing diplomatic strain between Israel and parts of the European Union amid ongoing debates over the Israel–Gaza conflict and broader regional tensions in the Middle East.
