Netanyahu’s party says he’ll run in upcoming vote after Trump raises doubts

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 10. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud Party announced that he will be a candidate in the upcoming election after a comment by US President Donald Trump appeared to cast doubt on whether he would run.

TurkicWorld reports that the election has not yet been formally announced but must take place by October. ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl reported on X that Trump said he did not know if Netanyahu would stand, stating: “I don’t know, he’s had an amazing career. Does he want to continue?”

This will be Israel’s first election since the start of the 2023 Gaza war triggered by Hamas’ attacks. Netanyahu’s term since December 2022 has been marked by the most right-wing coalition in Israeli history, repeated mass protests, and multiple corruption investigations.
