BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. Lebanese and Israeli military delegations are set to hold security talks at the Pentagon, where Lebanese officials are expected to demand an end to Israeli strikes, military operations and the continued presence of Israeli forces in parts of southern Lebanon.
TurkicWorld reports according to reports, the Lebanese delegation consists of six officers led by Georges Rizkallah, director of operations in the Lebanese Armed Forces.
A Lebanese military source, speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, said the delegation would stress the need for a genuine ceasefire and present the army's plan to establish a state monopoly over weapons and extend government authority throughout the country.
The source said Beirut intends to highlight efforts aimed at strengthening state institutions and enhancing the role of the national army in maintaining security.
Representing Israel at the talks will be Brigadier-General Amichai Levin, head of the strategic division within the Israeli military's planning directorate.
Lebanon and Israel, which have officially remained in a state of war for decades, began direct discussions in April. A fourth round of talks is expected to take place in early June.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah's parliamentary bloc has called on Lebanese authorities to withdraw from direct negotiations with Israel, accusing the country of attempting to impose security coordination arrangements that would serve its military objectives.
The issue of Hezbollah's weapons is expected to remain one of the most sensitive topics. Both Israel and the United States have repeatedly called for the group's disarmament, while Lebanese authorities have tasked the national army with addressing the matter as part of broader security reforms.
