Israeli Foreign Minister rejects EU sanctions against West Bank settlers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 11. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has sharply criticized the European Union’s sanctions against Israeli settlers accused of violence in the occupied West Bank. TurkicWorld reports that the Israeli minister described the EU decision as “politically motivated.”

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Gideon Saar said that the European Union is imposing arbitrary sanctions against Israeli citizens and institutions without any legal basis.

The minister stressed that Israel would continue to defend the Jewish people’s “right to settle in our historic homeland.”

It should be noted that under international law, the establishment of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories is considered illegal.

The United Nations and international human rights organizations have repeatedly warned in recent months about rising violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. Reports indicate that Israeli settlers often act in coordination with military forces.

According to UN data, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in the region since October 7, 2023.
