Uzbekistan creates parliamentary poll voting conditions for impaired persons

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 28. The necessary conditions for the participation of impaired persons have been provided in Uzbekistan's parliamentary election, TurkicWorld reports via the country's National Agency of Social Protection.

The agency has submitted a list of disabled citizens aged over 18 who are eligible to vote to the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan.

Thus, on election day, 831,738 disabled citizens were given the opportunity to vote, among whom 105,404 required assistance in voting, and 17,309 needed constant care.

To enhance inclusivity and convenience at polling stations, special measures were implemented.

Homebound voters were given the option to vote at their place of residence; free transportation was organized for those in need of care; and specially equipped booths for secret voting were installed for voters who arrived at the polling stations independently.

Additionally, polling stations were primarily located on the ground floors of buildings, highlighting Uzbekistan's commitment to providing equal opportunities for all citizens.

To note, the election of MPs of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) and local kengashes (councils) was held in Uzbekistan on October 27.

The polling stations were open from 08:00 through 20:00 (GMT+5).

Preliminary data indicates that the total number of people who cast votes in Uzbekistan's parliamentary election reached 15 million people, which is 74.7 percent of the total voter turnout.

The Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan garnered the largest percentage of votes (34.75 percent).

This year's election was held according to a mixed electoral system in line with the updated Constitution and national electoral legislation. This system provides for 75 members of the Legislative Chamber to be elected in single-mandate constituencies using the majority electoral system, while the remaining 75 members will be elected using the proportional representation electoral system with party lists.

Another notable aspect of this year's election is the full digitalization of the process through the "E-Saylov" information system.

In particular, more than 850 foreign and international observers took part in monitoring the election process as part of the missions of the CIS, SCO, and the Organization of Turkic States.
