Tajikistan seeks Iranian partnership for oil and gas exploration

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 27. Tajikistan and Iran have explored potential opportunities for oil and gas exploration in Tajikistan, TurkicWorld reports via the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma and newly appointed Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad as part of Juma's working visit to Iran.

The two sides discussed expanding sectorial cooperation, including attracting investment to the oil and gas sector, the import of crude oil from Iran to Tajikistan with proposed discounts, and sharing expertise between specialists from both countries.

Earlier during his trip to Iran, Juma also met with the Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi. They exchanged views on Tajikistan's international initiatives regarding water and climate issues, the significance of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant for the region, and the project for reconnecting Tajikistan to the unified energy system of Central Asia.

The topic of oil was also addressed, specifically regarding the transportation of crude oil for Tajikistan’s oil refineries.
