BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 4 The European Union has rejected any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, European Commission spokesperson Christian Wigand said.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Wigand stated that the EU opposes any efforts aimed at demographic or territorial changes in Gaza.
“We reject any attempt at demographic or territorial changes in the Gaza Strip. There should be no forced displacement of Gazans. Gaza is part and parcel of a future Palestinian state,” he said.
The statement comes amid proposals by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir regarding plans to remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
The European Union stressed that Gaza’s future should be linked to the establishment of a future Palestinian state.
Forced displacement of civilian populations is prohibited under international humanitarian law and may constitute a war crime under certain circumstances.
