Azerbaijani song misappropriated by Armenian singer removed from YouTube - Joint statement

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 12. In recent days, information has appeared in the press that the words of a song called “Karabakh” (“Karabakh is the cradle of all dreams”), the author of the music and lyrics of which is the Azerbaijani composer Bahram Nasibov, were changed by Gor Yepremyan, and his performance of the song called “Sirun jan" posted on the YouTube platform in the "Armenian folk music" section. In this regard, the Intellectual Property Agency published a comprehensive statement on July 9, 2024, and on July 10, the Ministry of Culture and the Agency published a joint statement, TurkicWorld reports.

The Ministry of Culture and the Intellectual Property Agency further declare the following:

"Appropriate measures are being taken to remove the Sirun Jan song performed by Gor Yepremyan from the YouTube platform. As part of the measures taken, the Agency provided legal assistance in preparing a statement from Adil Nasibov, the heir of composer Bakhram Nasibov, to the YouTube administration, and the statement and relevant evidentiary documents were translated into English. With the support of the Agency, the specified documents on behalf of the composer's heir were sent to YouTube by the Public Association "Digital and Audiovisual Broadcasting Industry" (RAYS) - https://rays.az/, specializing in working with YouTube and other digital platforms, accredited by the Agency.

The preliminary result of the measures taken is that the video recording of the song “Sirun Jan”, posted on Gor Yepremyan’s official YouTube page (the original source of the offense), was removed by YouTube management due to copyright infringement (URL: https:// www.youtube. com/watch?v=xbFwavNaTHI).

Other audio and video recordings of the song "Sirun Jan" are currently posted by the distribution company CD BABY on digital music platforms (YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, etc.), and appropriate work is being carried out to remove copies, taken from the original source, resulting in a violation of rights and placed in derivative sources

Additional information will be provided about the result."
