Kyrgyz travellers gain visa-free access to China

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. Kyrgyz citizens can enter China visa-free for up to 10 days starting August 20.

According to the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan, this was announced by Sagynbek Abdumutalip, Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan, citing information from China’s National Immigration Administration.

"Starting Aug. 20, Kyrgyz citizens can enter China without a visa for up to 10 days," he said.

As Sagynbek Abdumutalip explained, the only condition for visa-free entry for up to 10 days is to have an air ticket confirming that the return trip to Kyrgyzstan will be made via a third country.

If a Kyrgyz citizen wants to visit Beijing, Shanghai or another Chinese city without a visa, it is sufficient to purchase a direct air ticket to the chosen destination and a return ticket to Kyrgyzstan via one of the third countries.

"For example, the following routes can be used: Shanghai – Almaty – Bishkek or Beijing – Tashkent – Osh," he said.

Travelers may enter China directly through any of the 65 designated entry points included in the relevant list.

Furthermore, the Chinese side has allowed Kyrgyz citizens to enter Hainan Island visa-free for up to 30 days.

Therefore, Kyrgyz citizens will no longer need to pay visa fees, prepare documents for visa applications, or spend time visiting a consulate.

Meanwhile, China is introducing the 10-day visa-free regime for Kyrgyz citizens unilaterally. Chinese citizens still require a visa to enter Kyrgyzstan.

Before allowing citizens of another country to stay on its territory visa-free, states conduct a comprehensive assessment of that country.

"We believe that, in making this decision, the Chinese side took into account the high level of bilateral cooperation, the results of reforms, security and socio-political stability in Kyrgyzstan, economic growth, as well as full control over the production of official identity documents. I am confident that this measure will create conditions for the development of cooperation in trade and tourism," Sagynbek Abdumutalip concluded.
