BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. Kyrgyzstan and Japan discussed prospects for expanding political, economic and humanitarian cooperation.
This was reflected in a press release issued by Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Ministry following a meeting between Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister Meder Abakirov and Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Eri Arfiya in Bishkek.
According to the report, Abakirov emphasized the importance of further developing bilateral relations, particularly in line with the outcomes of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov’s official visit to Japan in December 2025.
The Kyrgyz side expressed interest in maintaining active political dialogue and expanding economic and humanitarian cooperation.
Arfiya, in turn, reaffirmed Japan’s readiness to continue joint efforts to deepen relations and expand cooperation, including within multilateral frameworks.
"The sides discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda," including the organization of mutual visits at high and highest levels, as well as prospects for developing political contacts and practical cooperation in priority areas, the ministry said.
The officials also exchanged views on further cooperation under the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue, highlighting its role as a platform for regional cooperation.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan and Japan have been developing their partnership through regular political dialogue, economic cooperation and regional initiatives, with the relationship receiving additional attention following Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov’s official visit to Japan in December 2025. The two countries have also used the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue as a platform for discussing regional connectivity, economic development and cooperation in areas of shared interest. Japan’s engagement with Central Asia has increasingly focused on supporting sustainable economic development, infrastructure, human capital and private-sector activity, while Kyrgyzstan has sought to attract investment and expand cooperation with Asian partners.
