BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 22. A festive event dedicated to the celebration of the International Day of Nooruz was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in France said, TurkicWorld reports citing Kabar.
This year the chairmanship of the Organizing Committee of the event was assumed by the Permanent Mission of Kyrgyzstan to UNESCO.
The event was attended by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, heads of diplomatic missions, staff of the UNESCO Secretariat, as well as representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora in France, the Embassy said.
In his welcoming speech, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to UNESCO Sadyk Sher-Niyaz addressed the guests on behalf of 13 states - Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Sadyk Sher-Niyaz emphasized that Nooruz is an integral part of the cultural heritage of many peoples, personifying universal values such as mutual assistance, peace and respect for traditions. He also emphasized that in the context of modern geopolitical processes and global challenges, the world needs unity and close cooperation. Therefore, holidays like Nooruz remind us of eternal values - peace, good neighborliness, respect for each other's cultures and traditions.
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay congratulated everyone on the holiday, emphasizing that Nooruz symbolizes renewal, hope, awakening of nature, meetings with family and friends, despite the difficult times the world is going through.
The Permanent Mission of Kyrgyzstan to UNESCO with the participation of the Kyrgyz diaspora organized a tasting of national cuisine and confectionery. Audrey Azoulay got acquainted with the festive table of Kyrgyzstan and highly appreciated the prepared national dishes. In addition, guests were presented with a stand with national clothing, musical instruments, jewelry, as well as books and brochures about the history and culture of Kyrgyzstan.
During the event, videos dedicated to the traditions of each country were broadcast on large screens, the report said.
