BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. Azerbaijan is set to save 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas by implementing new renewable energy capacities by 2030, Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov said during the 12th Caspian Energy Forum in Baku, TurkicWorld reports.
Thermal power plants use this volume of equivalent gas to generate electricity at present, but when renewable energy sources are more widely used, this volume will be liberated for other uses.
He pointed out that with a boost in green energy production, the gas savings could soar to 800 million cubic meters by 2027.
Zeynalov emphasized that the freed-up gas volumes would be redirected for export.
The Deputy Minister also highlighted Azerbaijan's goal of achieving 30 percent of electricity generation capacity from alternative and renewable energy sources by 2030, although ongoing efforts in this area may push this figure even higher.
Expectations indicate that this percentage could reach 32.5 percent by 2027 and 35 percent by 2030.
