BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) began supplying natural gas to Croatia on September 1, 2024, TurkicWorld reports citing SOCAR.
"This milestone is the result of successful cooperation between the governments of Azerbaijan and Croatia. The supply of Azerbaijani gas to Croatia ahead of the winter season, facilitated by PPD and MET Group, further solidifies Azerbaijan's position as a reliable energy partner and gas supplier for Europe," the company stated.
The event marks a significant step in expanding energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Croatia, enhancing the continent's energy security and showcasing SOCAR's commitment to diversifying energy sources for Europe's domestic markets, said SOCAR.
"With this development, Croatia joins Türkiye, Georgia, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, and Slovenia as the tenth European country receiving Azerbaijani gas," said the company.
Azerbaijan delivers natural gas to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor. The current capacity of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the European leg of this corridor, is 10 billion cubic meters per year, with the potential for expansion to 20 billion cubic meters.
