Azerbaijan's SOCAR makes 19th coupon payment on its bonds

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 3. The latest coupon payment on SOCAR’s second bonds, issued by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in 2021 for the domestic capital market, in the amount of $1.12 million, was credited to bondholders’ accounts on August 3.

This is reflected in a report issued by SOCAR Capital.

According to the report, as a result of the 19th coupon payment, the total income for investors in SOCAR’s second bonds has increased to $21.37 million (the total income over the entire term of circulation will amount to $22.5 million).

The report noted that transactions totaling $132.2 million were conducted on SOCAR bonds in circulation on the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE), with 1,784 trades executed. In total, since the bonds were issued (in 2016), SOCAR has paid interest income of $57.25 million to citizens and investors.

The next and last coupon payment on SOCAR’s second series of bonds is scheduled for November 2, 2026.

SOCAR bonds, which have held the status of the most actively traded corporate bonds on the Baku Stock Exchange for nearly 10 years, can be purchased at the "SOCAR İstiqrazları" kiosks in the "ASAN Khidmet" centers No. 1 and No. 5, as well as through officially licensed investment companies in Azerbaijan.

SOCAR bonds not only maintain high investor interest in the country's corporate bond market, but also contribute to the expansion of the capital market through new instruments. The formation of the "green bonds" segment on the Baku Stock Exchange in recent years has opened up new opportunities in this direction.

BSE Chairman of the Management Board, Ruslan Khalilov, also said in an interview with Trend that additional issuances of green bonds may be carried out on the BSE over time.

According to him, trading in green bonds issued by SOCAR began on the BSE in March last year. The bonds were placed with a five-year maturity and a total issuance volume of $200 million.

"To support the development of green finance, the Baku Stock Exchange has established a dedicated Green Bond Segment. All listing fees within this segment have been reduced to zero. In other words, any company seeking to list a green bond or other green security that meets the required criteria is fully exempt from listing fees," he said.

The BSE chairman noted that several companies in the energy and logistics sector are showing interest in issuing green bonds.

"Most likely, over time, we will see additional green bond issuances," he added.
