Israeli military claims it killed Hamas and PIJ commanders in Gaza City

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. The Israeli military says it killed two Palestinian commanders in separate attacks on Gaza City on Thursday.

In one of the attacks, the Israeli military said Ibrahim Nabil Ibrahim Bass was killed in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City.

According to the Israeli military, Bass was a commander in the military wing of Hamas and had entered Israel during the October 7, 2023 attacks.

In a separate attack in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood, the Israeli military said it killed Hamdi Ahmad Hamid Kahlil.

Israel identified Kahlil as an observation platoon commander with Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

The Israeli military alleged that both men had recently been involved in planning attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.

It also claimed that the two commanders had been involved in efforts to rebuild the military capabilities of their organisations in violation of the ceasefire.

The Israeli military did not provide evidence to substantiate these allegations.

The claims regarding the roles and recent activities of the two Palestinians could not be independently verified by Al Jazeera.
