BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 25. Kenya Airways reported a pre-tax loss of 16.1 billion Kenyan shillings ($124.5 million) for the first half of 2026, widening from the loss recorded during the same period last year.
The state-owned Kenyan airline had reported a pre-tax loss of 12.17 billion shillings in the first six months of the previous year.
Despite the larger loss, Kenya Airways recorded growth in revenue during the reporting period.
Total revenue increased by 9 percent to 81.25 billion shillings in the first half of 2026, compared with 74.5 billion shillings a year earlier.
The figures indicate that higher revenue was not sufficient to offset the airline’s costs and prevent a further deterioration in its pre-tax result.
Kenya Airways operates a fleet of approximately 40 aircraft and remains one of East Africa’s major international carriers.
The latest financial results highlight the continuing challenge facing the airline as it seeks to improve profitability while maintaining and expanding its operations.
