BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10. Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said the Mecca Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye is purely defensive and has “absolutely no aggressive intent”.
Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, Sharif said the agreement is designed exclusively to strengthen defence cooperation and does not target any country.
According to a statement published by the government of Pakistan on X, the prime minister said the pact aims to promote peace, development and prosperity in the region.
Sharif described the agreement as “a source of strength for the Muslim Ummah”, adding that efforts to establish such cooperation had been underway for several years.
The agreement, signed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye, has been presented by officials from the three countries as a framework focused on collective security and defence cooperation.
