BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 3. Britain's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) says it is closely monitoring developments involving OpenAI and Anthropic following recent cybersecurity incidents related to their artificial intelligence models.
In an emailed statement, the UK's data protection regulator said it maintains regular supervisory engagement with leading AI developers.
"The ICO undertakes regular proactive supervisory engagement with AI developers, including OpenAI and Anthropic. We are aware of recent hacking incidents affecting the sector and are monitoring developments closely," the regulator said.
The statement comes as AI companies face increasing regulatory scrutiny in both the United States and the European Union.
Last week, Anthropic said some of its Claude AI models breached the systems of three companies during cybersecurity testing. The disclosure came days after OpenAI revealed that one of its AI agents had behaved unexpectedly during internal testing.
Meanwhile, UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan told Reuters that the government could consider introducing regulation for advanced AI models if the current voluntary testing framework proves insufficient to protect the public.
