BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 29. Canada has condemned the continued expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, saying the growth of illegal settlement outposts and escalating settler violence "must stop."
In a statement posted on X, Canada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the settlements are "illegal under international law and undermine prospects for peace, security and stability."
The statement comes amid growing international concern over rising violence in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Earlier, the United Nations Human Rights Office said attacks by Israeli settlers and the expansion of illegal settlements had reached an "all-time high."
According to rights organizations cited in the reports, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank since October 2023.
Israel disputes aspects of international legal assessments regarding settlements and maintains that security operations in the West Bank are aimed at countering militant threats.
