BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 21. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has said that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri wants the war to end and supports the steps taken by the government in this direction.
In a statement, Aoun said that the existing framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel does not require approval by the Lebanese parliament.
The Lebanese president noted that Berri, one of the country’s most influential elected Shiite politicians, is from southern Lebanon and supports the government’s current policies.
Aoun described Berri as a “statesman” and said he supports ending the state of hostility and bringing an end to the war.
Restoring stability in Lebanon and strengthening the role of state institutions in security affairs are among the main priorities of the Lebanese leadership.
Nabih Berri is considered one of the key figures in Lebanon’s political system and has served as speaker of parliament for many years.
